MEDC appoints new board members, forms sub committees

January 30, 2012 – At the annual meeting of the Marlborough Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) held on January 25, at the Embassy Suites, Marlborough, eight new board members were elected.

These new members represent leading personalities in the community in their respective fields. They are: Wes Tuttle, senior vice president, New England Sports Center; David Ferris, vice president, Investments, Ferris Development; Martin Levins, board president, Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce; Richard Skinner, general manager, Best Western Royal Plaza and Convention Center; Chris Berglund, senior vice president, Commercial Lending, Marlborough Savings Bank; Deborah Fairbanks, owner, Fairbanks Development LLC; Robert Kays, owner, Prospector East Saloon and prominent local entrepreneur and hospitality promoter; Michael Kennedy, owner, Kennedy’s Restaurant & Market. Newly elected city council president Trish Pope will take a seat on the executive committee.

According to MEDC chairman Arthur Bergeron 2012 should be a great year. “The board of directors has adopted an aggressive strategy to implement the master plan’s major recommendations including staff growth and restructuring. I hope our board will play an increasingly active role in the implementation work.”

MEDC will focus on Business Retention and Expansion, Urban Village Development, and Hospitality and Sports Tourism. These three areas were highlighted in the 2011 economic development master plan as priority action items. MEDC’s 24 board members will each sit on one of the committees and be actively involved in the initiatives.

Makepeace; Jack Caulfield, St. Mary’s Credit Union; Rick Grady, Raytheon Company; Robert McCabe, Olde Marlborough, Inc.; Walter Bonin, Walter Bonin Financial; Kevin Malloy, Avison Young; Mitch Gorka,  RE/MAX First Choice R. E.; Ellen Carlucci, Marlborough Hospital; Brian Murphy, Colonial Power.
