Mayor: Marlborough job fair is a success

September 18, 2012 — The MetroWest Daily News — Mayor Arthur Vigeant said today that at least 10 people have been hired at new jobs as a result of the “Marlborough Works!” job fair in June.

The job fair, sponsored by Vigeant’s office, the Marlborough Economic Development Corporation and Quinsigamond Community College, drew hundreds of job seekers to the Courtyard Marriott to meet with potential employers from dozens of companies.

According to a release from Vigeant’s office yesterday, companies that hired fair attendees include Raytheon, Brookfield Renewable Energy, Marlborough Hospital and Green Workforce Training. According to data from the MEDC, almost a third of the companies that participated in the fair interviewed candidates from the fair for open positions.

Vigeant said in a statement that he was happy with the news and said he would have considered the fair worthwhile even if only one of the attendees found work.

“I am tremendously pleased that people were able to capitalize on the job fair and find employment with local companies,” Vigeant said in the statement. “The whole goal of this initiative was to connect local people with local companies and I could not be happier with the results.”

Vigeant said he hopes to get the ball rolling on another fair in the early spring.
