WORCESTER BUSINESS JOURNAL – State officials agreed this week to fund $1.6 million of infrastructure upgrades as part of the redevelopment of the former Hewlett Packard complex in Marlborough, according to the Marlborough Economic Development Corporation.
The state money will be used to improve the roadways and make the Forest Park area more bike and pedestrian-friendly.
“We’re here to celebrate a wonderful public-private partnership,” Gov. Deval Patrick said while at the Simarano Drive site. “It’s helping to really establish a whole new neighborhood here in Marlborough, and I’m proud to be a part of it.”
Quest Diagnostics will be moving into a 200,000-square-foot lab on the property in mid-2014, consolidating operations from two other Central Massachusetts sites.
That will be complemented by 350 apartments spread across 23.5 acres of the site. AvalonBay Communities paid $14.88 million Oct. 21 to purchase the land, and expects to start construction in December.
Other elements in the first place of the Forest Park development including a three-story, 125-room hotel and an additional 530,000 square feet of office, research and design space.
