Property Developers Flock to Marlborough

Greater Boston developers look for new opportunities in downtown Marlborough

Marlborough, MASS. March 10, 2015 – Close to 50 developers from across the Greater Boston area gathered in Marlborough yesterday to learn about the latest opportunities in the city.

The Downtown Marlborough Developers Tour showcased the city’s booming economy and newest zoning changes, which give developers the freedom to build with more flexibility.

Representatives from some of the region’s most prominent development firms, including The Community Builders, Northland Residential Corporation, and NOW Communities, came out to the invitation-only event, which was organized by the Marlborough Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and took place at the Marlborough Country Club.

Mayor Arthur Vigeant kicked off the day with highlights of Marlborough’s recent economic successes and future growth plans.

MEDC Executive Director Tim Cummings gave the keynote presentation, outlining the current zoning laws and concrete development opportunities in the city’s downtown area.

“We have targeted downtown Marlborough as a growth district for mixed-use development,” said Cummings. “It is our hope that the private sector will respond to the new zoning changes and bring forward proposals that will continue to build upon our great Main Street streetscape.”

Tania Hartford, Director of Real Estate Services at MassDevelopment, was also on hand to talk about the financial tools and consulting support services available to developers who want to start projects in the city.

The event concluded with a bus tour of downtown Marlborough, focusing on the areas with the highest development potential.
