METRO WEST DAILY NEWS – The Marlborough Economic Development Corporation recently added a handful of companies to the lineup for its upcoming job fair and hope to attract a few more by next Thursday’s event.
Job fair: After hearing from several city-based companies that had jobs available and wanted to hire local residents, Marlborough officials and the MEDC first organized the Marlborough Works! Job Fair in June 2012 to connect job seekers with those corporations. A few hundred job seekers typically attend each year along with upwards of 30 companies from a variety of career fields, said Meredith Harris, MEDC executive director. “It reaches many different demographics of people,” said Harris.
Companies: MEDC officials last week announced 11 more companies have signed on to participate in the fair. Acme United – Diamond Machining Technology, Belfor Property Restoration, Boston Biomedical Associates, Central Steel Supply Company, Davis Companies, Helen of Troy Health and Home, SanDisk, Senior Systems, Tetra Tech, Versatile and WaterSep BioSeparations were announced as attendees this week. They will join Capaccio Environmental Engineering, DCU, FedEx Ground, GE Healthcare, IEP Technologies, IPG Photonics, Ken’s Foods, LFB-USA, MHQ, OYO Sports, Prudential Financial, Quest Diagnostics, Renewal by Andersen, Ruland Manufacturing and TJX. Harris hopes to add a few more companies to the lineup this week.
Unemployment rate: Due to an influx of companies expanding or moving to the city recently, the city’s unemployment rate has decreased by 44 percent since August 2012. The city’s rate stands at 3.2 percent, a figure officials hope to continue to lower.
Registration: The job fair will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the ballroom at the Courtyard by Marriott. Attendees are advised to register online in advance to avoid long lines. Those who register will have the opportunity to win a free laptop. For more information or to register visit www.marlboroughedc.com/jobfair.
