New Marlborough Works! spring job fair to showcase entry-level positions

METRO WEST DAILY NEWS – Searching for an entry- or mid-level job? The Marlborough Economic Development Corp. may be able to help.

The city and upwards of 25 Marlborough-based companies are partnering for the first Marlborough Works! Spring Job Fair that will focus on entry- and mid-level positions in the manufacturing, service, retail and hotel industries, said Meredith Harris, MEDC executive director.

The MEDC organizes an annual job fair each fall that typically attracts biotech and life science companies that are often searching for senior-level positions. The spring job fair – which will be held May 11 – will be geared toward job seekers who recently graduated college, are still studying or do not have college experience.

“All of the jobs in the city are important,” said Harris. “We saw that as a need.”

Representatives from Oyo Sports, Prudential Financial, WaterSep BioSeparations and Courtyard Marriott will attend. Harris expects several other companies will join the lineup.

The fall job fair typically attracts between 400 and 500 job seekers and Harris is hopeful the same number will attend the new spring fair.

“Marlborough’s strong economic growth over the past few years can be found across all job types, from high-level life sciences positions to opportunities to start a career in the service industry,” Mayor Arthur Vigeant said in a press release. “This job fair is dedicated to helping Marlborough residents who may not have finished college yet or are just looking to get started in an entry-level position.”

Due to an influx of corporations expanding or moving into the city the past few years, including GE Healthcare Life Sciences, TJX, Courtyard Marriott and Quest Diagnostics, the city’s unemployment rate has decreased by 44 percent since August 2012. The city’s rate stands at 3.3 percent, according to the Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.

The job fair will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Courtyard Marriott. Attendees are encouraged to bring their resume and register online in advance. For more information or to register, visit www.marlboroughedc.com/springjobfair.

Marlborough-based employers seeking to fill entry- and mid-level positions are invited to reserve a spot at the job fair by emailing Linda Martins at Lmartins@marlboroughedc.com or by calling 508-229-2010.
