GO LOCAL WORCESTER – Marlborough has been named the most booming suburb in Central Massachusetts, according to a recent survey done by Coldwell Banker.
Coldwell Banker, a national real estate corporation, ranked 1,500 suburbs nationwide with populations greater than 22,275.
“Booming” was defined in the survey by 15-20 attributes ranging from number of single-family homes and proximity to quality schools, to gas affordability, leisure activities and more. Coldwell Banker’s survey weighted each attribute on a scale from 1 to 5, with a maximum possible score of 1000.
Marlborough finished strong overall, ranking #24 out of 75 ranked Massachusetts suburbs. Located on the western edge of Central Mass, Marlborough has a population of 38,884 that has grown 7.2% since 2000.
Amenities in town include Solomon Pond Mall, hotels, movie theaters and restaurants.
“One of the main reasons [for the ranking] are the home prices. It’s an affordable community,” said Massoud Atallah, a realtor at the Coldwell Banker Northborough Office (which services Marlborough).“Families come here for access to the charter school, The Advanced Math and Science Academy,” he said.
Atallah also mentioned high tech businesses located in the business park in town, as well as great accessibility to major highways, which he noted were reasons for Marlborough’s performance.
