Whole Foods moving regional headquarters to Marlborough

METRO WEST DAILY NEWS – Whole Foods is relocating its North Atlantic regional headquarters from Cambridge to the Marlborough Hills mixed-use development, a move that will bring nearly 200 jobs to the city.

The company, which has been dubbed “America’s Healthiest Grocery Store,” will move into a 50,000-square-foot building between GE Healthcare Life Sciences and Quest Diagnostics at the Forest Street complex, said Joe Zink, president of Atlantic Management, which operates the Marlborough Hills development.

Zink said renovations to the building are ongoing and Whole Foods plans to move in sometime in April or May.

The company is pleased to be joining the Marlborough community and plans to make the move in the spring, Heather McCready, public relations manager for the North Atlantic region, said in a statement.

The statement did not indicate why the company is moving its regional headquarters.

Whole Foods’ North Atlantic region includes Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine. The chain operates 467 stores across the country, Canada and the United Kingdom.

Meredith Harris, executive director of the Marlborough Economic Development Corporation, called Whole Foods’ move “a big win for the city.”

Bringing approximately 200 more jobs to Marlborough will allow the city to continue to reduce its unemployment rate – which currently stands at 2.1 percent. The move will also benefit other area businesses, Harris said.

“It’s wonderful,” she said. “It’s hugely exciting. Having more jobs in the city will continue to stimulate economic activity.”

Whole Foods will join a handful of local businesses that call the Marlborough Hills facility home. The complex also features a 153-room Hilton Garden Inn, a 350-unit Avalon Bay apartment complex, a Learning Experience Child Development Center, GE Healthcare Life Sciences and Quest Diagnostics.

Zink said Whole Foods is a welcome addition to the growing commercial development.

“It realizes the vision of having a corporate campus with all the amenities,” he said.
