MAIN STREET JOURNAL – During the spring and summer of this year, the Assabet Valley Regional Technical High football stadium on Fitchburg Street in Marlborough was busy with activity with backhoes, bobcats, and a plethora of construction workers and landscape crews all working to complete the new turf field in time for the first football game in September. The final touches were added mere hours before kickoff.
After more than forty years on the old field, Assabet finished a $2.4M renovation on the stadium, removing the old grass field and installing turf, and replacing the cinder track with a rubberized eight-lane track as part of the ongoing improvements on the technical high school campus.
The new stands were packed with excited fans when Assabet hosted Hudson High on opening day. Despite losing a strong senior lineup from last season, the Aztecs dominated the game from both ends of the field while posting a 42-14 win.
