Vin Bin announces expansion plans

MAIN STREET JOURNAL – Marlborough-based Vin Bin will once again be expanding when a fourth location is open this fall next to Hannaford in Marlborough’s RK Plaza on Boston Post Road West. Owner Rick Lombardi said, “The explosion of activity in the west end of Marlborough is a perfect setting for our style of wine, craft beer and artisan cheese.”

In order to differentiate from the downtown Marlborough Vin Bin shop, the new store will be called Vin Bin West. Offerings will be comparable to other Vin Bin locations except there will be no café.

The 3,000 square foot store will be the only beer and wine shop in the R.K. Plaza and will provide retail package goods service to shoppers who frequent Hannaford and the new businesses across the street in the new Apex Center.

“Our passion has always been to bring the very best wine, craft beer, artisan foods to the marketplace, and this new, expanded space will give us that opportunity to grow our selections in Marlborough,” Lombardi said.

Among the featured items will be locally-sourced farm fresh cheeses from dairies visited by Vin Bin staff; small production wines discovered during travels to wine country not only in the United States, but across Europe as well, and carefully selected fancy foods from various vendors with an emphasis on those that are locally made.

With the oversight of General Manager and chief buyer Aaron Aykanian, the craft beer selection will continue to grow and expand to meet demand. Vin Bin West will triple its current craft beer selections in Marlborough, while also ramping up offerings of well-known domestic beer and name brand wines.

Lombardi said he expects to hire twelve to fifteen new employees. In addition, he has named Darren McLaughlin (shown below) as manager of Vin Bin West.

McLaughlin is well-known to the community as past general manager of Wayside Athletic Club and as a member of the board of the Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Vin Bin (thevinbin.com) currently operates three stores and two cafes. The original store and café is inside the old fire station at 91 Main Street in Marlborough. Other locations include a store at 22 South Street in Hopkinton along with a café and store at 154 Turnpike Road in Southborough. Both cafe locations serve lunch and early dinner.

Vin Bin currently employs more than fifty staff and hosts various seasonal activities, such as spring and fall Grand Tastings, weekly free tastings, a value-driven newsletter called Monday Morning Bacchus, and a Wine and Cheese Academy. Vin Bin stores also contribute to local charitable organizations through in-store fundraisers.

Over the past decade, the Vin Bin has won numerous Readers Choice Awards for Marlborough and the entire region. In addition, Vin Bin was awarded Small Business of the Year by the Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce and also the Marlborough Pride Award.
