MAIN STREET JOURNAL – With summer under way, those seeking a little relief from the heat have three options in Marlborough, a beach, a splash pad and two wading pools, all of which are now open.
Ghiloni Park is home to the city’s first splash pad, which is open daily during the summer, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. A second splash pad is scheduled to open at Stevens Park sometime in 2019.
Marlborough’s World War II Memorial Beach at 671 Hosmer Street spans thirteen acres. The beach is supervised by lifeguards on duty and features both sandy and grassy areas with large trees for shade. Changing rooms, restrooms, picnic benches and barbecue areas are available. Public swimming hours are 11:45 AM to 5:45 PM, seven days.
Entry is free for Marlborough residents. The non-resident rate is $10 per person. For questions or information, call the Marlborough Recreation Department at 508-624-6925. Groups of ten or more must have prior permission from the Recreation Department at least two weeks before visiting the beach.
Two wading pools are available for use in Marlborough between June 22nd and August 26th. Farrell Pool is located on Sawin Street at the Hildreth School, and the Ward Park Pool is accessible via Orchard Street at the former Bigelow School. Summer operating hours are 12:00 noon to 5:45 PM, seven days a week.
