MAIN STREET JOURNAL – The Marlborough Public School system is being honored by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central MA and MetroWest with the Launch Innovation Award for their support of the new Mazie Mentoring Program at Marlborough High School, which started in September 2019.
Big Brothers Big Sisters was scheduled to present the awards at “The Big Celebration” on April 4, 2020. However, the event, which serves as the organization’s annual spring fundraiser, has been postponed to a future date not yet announced.
The Mazie Mentoring Program recruits and trains adult volunteers to mentor high school students at risk of not reaching their full potential. Marlborough Public Schools have been a helpful partner, providing insights, ideas, resources, and dedication to this new, innovative mentoring program.
“Since starting the program at Marlborough High School, the administration, staff, and students have been very responsive,” said Sean Cooney, Marlborough Mazie Program Manager. Currently, Big Brothers Big Sisters has matched five Marlborough students with mentors. “As the program grows, the goal is to serve five additional students by Spring 2020,” said Cooney.
