Marlborough, MASS. October 22, 2013 –  In just 3 days, more than 100 business leaders from across the state will come together for the 2013 Marlborough Innovation Summit on Manufacturing.

The event is organized by the Marlborough Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and sponsored by Worcester-based law firm Mirick O’Connell. It is set to take place on Friday, October 25th from 7am to 10am at The Campus at Marlborough.

Under the title “Resources for Keeping Your Gears in Motion,” the summit will focus on government initiatives available to manufacturers, who want to keep their businesses growing. A number of local and state officials are scheduled to attend and speak at the event, including:

  • Greg Bialecki, Massachusetts Secretary of Housing and Economic Development;
  • Jamie EldridgeMassachusetts State Senator;
  • Danielle GregoireMassachusetts State Representative;
  • Tom ConroyMassachusetts State Representative;
  • Arthur VigeantMarlborough Mayor.

A panel of distinguished experts will present and discuss various support, funding and workforce training programs, designed specifically for manufacturing companies. Panelists will include:

  • Arthur Bergeron, Chairman, MEDC – as moderator;
  • Mike Prior, Director of Business Development/NGM Programs, Massachusetts Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MassMEP);
  • Louis Gaviglia, Vice President of Manufacturing Program Initiatives, MassDevelopment;
  • Douglas Kehlhem, Senior Director, MassEcon.

This will be the fourth of the annual summit series, which focuses on a different industry each year. The summit will kick off with a breakfast and the announcement of the winners of the Mirick O’Connell Innovation Award, which recognizes pioneering Marlborough-based companies. While the award has been traditionally presented to a single overall winner, for the first time this year, Mirick O’Connell will honor two companies. Previous Innovation Award recipients include Raytheon, Optos, and Spectra Analysis Instruments.

More than 100 people have registered to attend the summit so far. Among them are representatives from Versatile Communications, Hologic, Unicorr Packaging Group, Universal Window and Door, Spectra Analysis Instruments, Qualtre, DocuServe, Intrinsix, VCE, Sunovion Pharmaceuticals, CeraNova Corporation, and Oxford Immunotec.

“When we started this event in 2010, the idea was to give local business leaders the opportunity to meet and network with their counterparts, as well as with government and community leaders,” said MEDC Executive Director, Tim Cummings. “With each passing year, we have not only brought more and more people and businesses together, but have also drawn increasing attention to our city and its infinite potential for economic growth.”
