Marlborough job fair looks to help local companies fill entry-level positions

Marlborough, MASS. May 11, 2017 – More than 500 jobs at 23 local companies were on offer at the inaugural Marlborough Works! Spring Job Fair held at the Courtyard by Marriott in Marlborough today.

Around 200 jobseekers attended the free event, which was organized by the Marlborough Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) as part of Mayor Arthur Vigeant’s ongoing efforts to increase local employment.

Hiring representatives from a number of local manufacturers, retailers, hotels and various other companies looked to fill entry-level and mid-level positions. Quest Diagnostics, Target, Macy’s, The TJX Companies, IPG Photonics, and Watersep BioSeparations were among the employers attending the event.

In October 2016, the MEDC and the City held the 5th annual Marlborough Works! Job Fair, which focused on life sciences, biotechnology, high technology and other industries that require higher levels of education and more years of work experience. The Marlborough Works! Spring Job Fair was the first such event that focused specifically on entry-level positions.

“We are thrilled to have had such a great turnout of both companies and jobseekers at this inaugural event,” said MEDC Executive Director Meredith Harris. “It shows that there is a demand for these types of job fairs that focus on offering entry-level and mid-level positions to applicants that are fresh out of school or don’t have a lot of specialized work experience. I am certain that most of the jobseekers who attended today, benefitted from being here, and will either walk away with a job, or an interview, or, at the very least, an experience that will help them in their job search.”

“My ultimate goal is to serve the people of Marlborough and help them, in whatever way I can, to lead more comfortable and fulfilling lives in our city,” said Mayor Arthur Vigeant. “That begins with helping everyone in the community, who wants to work, to find work. This job fair was an important step towards that goal, because it really focused on facilitating the job search for those people who have less work experience and are, likely, only at the beginning of their careers. With the great turnout we had, I am certain that we will continue to organize such events in the future.”
