Event designed to highlight innovative companies operating in Marlborough and serve as a networking forum for large and small companies alike

July 30, 2010 – The Marlborough Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and the law firm of Mirick O’Connell will co-sponsor the Marlborough Business Innovation Summit on September 22. The summit will showcase the city of Marlborough as a center for key industry clusters and innovation capacity.   The summit is being hosted by The Campus @Marlborough located at 100 Campus Drive, Marlborough, MA.

The event is a springboard for MEDC’s outreach to the business community of Marlborough. According to Arthur Bergeron, Chairman MEDC, “We hope this inaugural event will act as a platform from which we can reach out as the advocates for this business community. There is a plethora of impressive companies based in Marlborough and MEDC hopes to establish and grow relationships with them.”

The highlight of the event will be the presentation of the Mirick O’Connell Award for Business Innovation. Marlborough is home to a large group of companies at the forefront of life sciences, medical and technology innovation. Many of them have existing patents or patents pending. According to Brian Dingman, Partner/Chair Intellectual Property of Mirick O’Connell, ‘The award will be given to the company that best demonstrates the commercialization of a technology. The technology does not need to be new or highly technical and the size of the company is not a factor.’ For further information about the award criteria or to nominate your company contact bdingman@mirickoconnell.com

“We are excited about the Business Innovation Award and the opportunity to shine the spotlight on some of the incredible achievements of our Marlborough-based companies”, Bergeron said.

Topics to be discussed at the summit will include protecting intellectual property, confidential information and trade secrets, venture capital and other financing sources, workforce development and training, growing your business in Marlborough and expanding to the global economy.

The event is fully endorsed by Mayor Nancy Stevens and Marlborough city officials.  Greg Bialecki, state Housing and Economic Development secretary will be among the invited speakers.
