MARLBOROUGH, MASS., May 31, 2012 – Over 40 people attended last night’s “Marlborough Works!” Professional Résumé and Interview Workshop at the Science Lecture Hall of Marlborough High School. The event is the first of a two-part initiative developed by Marlborough Mayor Arthur Vigeant, Marlborough Economic Development Corporation, and Quinsigamond Community College.

Mayor Vigeant kicked off the event by briefly discussing his outreach efforts to the Marlborough business community and how he repeatedly heard from companies of their need to add to their workforce to meet growing demands. Believing that many city residents are either out of work or looking for a career change, Mayor Vigeant felt a locally focused job fair would have the dual benefit of helping employers as well as the city’s talented residents looking for new opportunities.

Mayor Vigeant is hopeful that the workshop and upcoming job fair will result in more residents finding gainful employment with local companies. “Our city is fortunate to have such community-oriented companies step up to the plate and give our residents a shot at some great opportunities,” said Mayor Vigeant.

Facilitated by Quinsigamond Community College, Wednesday night’s workshop gave job seekers tips and advice for winning over potential employers. The effort starts with résumés, which career coach Amy Mosher called a “sales and marketing tool” for people looking for a new job.

For the second part of the “Marlborough Works!” initiative, the city is hosting a job fair on Wednesday, June 13, 2012, 6-8:30 p.m. at the Courtyard Marriott, 75 Felton St., Marlborough. The free event, which is open to the public, will match up companies that do business in Marlborough with job seekers for various industries, including the health-care, manufacturing, and alternative energy sectors. More than two dozen companies will recruit for over 100 open positions.
