Marlborough, MASS. April 22, 2011 – Michael P. Hogan, a member of the board of directors of
Associated Industries of Massachusetts (AIM), the Marlborough Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and president and CEO of A.D. Makepeace Company, an agricultural and real estate development company headquartered in Wareham, was recently appointed by Governor Patrick to serve as AIM’s representative on his Economic Development Council.
Created as part of a legislative economic development initiative approved last year, state law now requires that the governor, during the first year of each new administration, convene an economic development planning council consisting of at least 12 members, one of whom shall be a representative of AIM.
Under the leadership from the secretary of housing and economic development, the council is charged with developing a written comprehensive economic policy for the Commonwealth and a strategic plan for implementing the policy, including establishing long-term goals and benchmarks which are not limited to a particular gubernatorial administration.
Once the policy and plan have been adopted by the secretary and the council, the plan will be submitted to the legislature’s Joint Committee on Economic Development for a public hearing prior to receiving final approval by the governor.
Commenting on Hogan’s appointment to the council to represent AIM, Richard Lord, AIM’s president & CEO said, “Michael Hogan has an extensive background in establishing and carrying out economic development policies and programs in both the public and private sectors, having served as mayor and city councilor for the City of Marlborough, president of MassDevelopment – the state’s economic development authority – under two governors, and CEO of one of the Commonwealth’s largest property developers and growers of cranberries. His extensive experience and commitment to the community should prove to be a valuable resource as the council works to develop plans to further strengthen the state’s economic prospects.”
