Marlborough, MASS. September 11, 2013 – Tim Cummings, Executive Director of the Marlborough Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) took part in a discussion panel at the Northeastern Economic Developers Association (NEDA) 2013 Annual Conference in Portland, ME.

In a session, entitled “Innovations in Systems and Infrastructure – Building Access to Fiber,” Cummings spoke about strong technology infrastructure as the foundation for resilient communities. In particular, he focused on the pressing need for better fiber infrastructure, in order to keep up with the speed of technological innovation.

“In an age of globalization, having modern communication networks has become almost symbolic with economic development,” said Cummings. “If you are not connected, you don’t exist. And fiber is no longer the future of communications; it’s the present. That’s why, in the last 2 years, the City of Marlborough has been taking steps to replace aging infrastructure with the newest technology, and I was proud to share our experiences with my colleagues at the conference.”

During the session, Cummings spoke alongside fellow panelist and President of Tilson Technology Management in Portland ME, Joshua Broder.

The NEDA 2013 Annual Conference, which took place from September 8-10th, brought together economic development leaders from across the Northeastern states.
